Hello Preschool Families!
I wanted to direct you to some Bible resources you might like to use at home to help your child grow in his/her relationship with God. Below you will find some of my favorites, including some resources that we will be using in the classroom this year.

Dear Preschool Families,
Thank you for a wonderful school year! It was truly a privilege being your child’s teacher and working with each and every one of you. I look forward to those of you whom I will see in the future, either next school year as your child progresses to another year of preschool or in future years with your child’s sibling(s). I wanted to provide you with some fun activities to try over the summer!

Here is one option for a fake snow recipe if you'd like to make a fake snow sensory bin for your child to play with at home: You will only need 2 ingredients -- white conditioner and baking soda
Here are some ideas of what you can do with fake snow:
You can also make some puffy snow paint at home and use it to paint a snow man!
I hope you enjoy these activities! Blessings, Ms. Barker Christmas is just around the corner! Your child is likely excited about the upcoming holiday. Here are some ideas of things you could do at home this month leading up to Christmas! :) Nativity Playsets - if you don't already have one, you could purchase a Nativity playset for your child to use at home to retell the Christmas story. Here are some of my favorites that we have in the classroom: Christmas books - here are some of my favorites that you can read together at home if you choose:
Christmas Cookies - Bake & decorate Christmas cookies together. Let your child be involved as much as possible. You can practice so many skills during this activity--language, math, fine motor, following directions, etc. Advent calendars - to count down the days until Christmas! Ms. Heather and her daughter made a Christmas tree advent calendar for each preschooler and we sent them home this week. There are so many advent calendar options to choose from if you want to purchase your own as well! Christmas Ornament Shape Hunt - look at all the ornaments on your tree. How many different shapes can you find? Christmas cards - let your child create Christmas cards to send to friends and family. This is a great way to practice writing skills, letter recognition, and fine motor skills. You can create your own or find printable Christmas cards that can be colored. Alternatively, you could also let your child put the stamps on the envelopes for any cards you send. This is another great way to practice fine motor skills! Christmas wish list - have your child write a list of what he/she wants for Christmas. This is another good way to practice writing and fine motor skills as well as letter and letter sound recognition. Christmas light patterns - use the following template to copy & create Christmas light patterns! There is also a paid version if you want to use cards to copy the pattern instead of coloring the pattern on paper. Felt Christmas Tree - we have one in the classroom and the children LOVE taking the ornaments on and off the tree over and over again. Christmas Sensory Bin - make your own Christmas-themed sensory bin at home. Here is an example. Fill the Christmas Tree - tape an outline of a Christmas tree (or another shape) onto the floor and have your child fill it in with blocks. Here is an example. Candy Cane Bead Patterns - use pipe cleaners and red & white beads to make a candy cane! Your child can practice patterning and fine motor skills! Fizzy Candy Cane Science Experiment - easy & fun. Gum Drop Christmas Tree STEM Activity - let your child build a Christmas tree out of gum drops and toothpicks! Turn it into an activity for the whole family by creating a Christmas tree building contest! I hope you found some of these ideas helpful! Blessings, Ms. Barker Hello Preschool Families!

One of the main skills we practice in preschool is the ability to focus on a single task for an extended period of time. This is something we will be working on all year long! Some of you might be interested in ways you can help with this at home, too. Here are a few ideas/tips:

This week, we have started working on letters AND numbers to help us learn these by the end of preschool! If your child is in 2-day, it still helpful to reinforce these skills for practice and exposure. However, if your child is struggling, that is okay. Your child still has another year of preschool after this one to master these! Letter M: Our letter this week is the letter M. I posted an optional activity on Seesaw that you can try to practice this letter at home. You can also watch the letter M video on my YouTube channel. Other ideas you can try:
Our number this week is the number one. I posted an optional activity on Seesaw for this as well. You can also watch the number 1 video on my YouTube channel. There is a corresponding worksheet under the Resources tab if you'd like to print it out for your child to use with the video. Other ideas you can try:
In Bible Time, we are learning about the story of the First Sin (Genesis 3). After reading this story together a few times, see if your child can retell the story! Some ideas for retelling practice:
I hope you find these ideas helpful! These are all optional activities. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to work with your child at home to reinforce these skills we are learning at school! Blessings, Ms. Barker Hello Preschool Families!
I made a video at the end of last school year for the letter S. I am including the link in case you'd like to view it to continue practicing this letter together at home. Letter S video If you have not logged into SeeSaw yet, please check it out! I included an activity you can try at home to practice with the letter S. Some other ideas:
I hope you enjoy these suggestions! Blessings, Ms. Barker Hello Preschool Families!
I sincerely apologize for my delay in this post (and in making videos). I've been busy moving into my new house! My internet will get set up tomorrow morning and hopefully I can start posting videos to YouTube after that! Look for new videos later this week! For now, I just wanted to give you some ideas of things you can work on over the summer and some fun ways to practice these skills together at home! Skills to Practice:

Wow! This is the last week of assignments for preschool this year! Time flies by so fast! If you are behind on assignments (or simply feel like completing more), you can continue to submit assignments through Friday of next week. Parent Teacher Conferences: If you have not already done so, please sign up for a time to meet with me (virtually via Zoom) to discuss your child's progress this school year and set goals for you to work on this summer. Conferences have been going pretty well so far, despite the fact that we have to do them a little differently. I would still like to meet with everyone if possible. I still have times available Tuesday-Friday this week. Sign up for an available time here. Seesaw: This week's assignments have been added to Seesaw. If possible, try to submit 5 posts for the week. Posts can be anything--completing the assigned activities, pictures of completed worksheets (can be ones I sent home, ones you printed off, or from a workbook you purchased), or fun activities you chose to complete together (such as cooking/baking, building something, creating an art project, etc.). If your child is on scholarship and you are behind on posts, please submit as many as you can (possibly more than 5) so that I can share that information with the scholarship committee. Next week is the last week to submit assignments on Seesaw. YouTube Channel: Please check out my YouTube Channel for the latest videos! I have videos for Bible lessons, read alouds, letter review, and number review! I hope to also add some videos for reviewing shapes in the upcoming weeks. I will continue to post videos until we are finished reviewing all the letters, numbers 0-20, and shapes! You might find these resources helpful over the summer to teach letters/numbers/shapes your child is struggling with or to review this information so your child retains it over the summer. Share Circle Zoom Meeting: We will have our final Zoom meeting this week at your child's usual time. If you are able, please join us for this meeting. You will receive an invitation to the meeting later today. Sight Words: In a few conferences, we discussed that some children are ready to start learning some sight words. You can purchase workbooks for sight word practice. Here is a list of preschool sight words. There are so many ways you can practice sight words! Here are some ideas:
Additional Activities: If you are looking for some other ideas to try, consider these:
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Blessings, Ms. Barker |
